The 14-meter-high tree in Plaza Casalon reflects the local identity and the community’s contribution to a sustainable environment

Central Pattana plc, led by Central Chiangrai, has joined hands with the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under the royal patronage of Chiang Rai Province (Doi Tung) to bring the "Colorful Doi Tung" festival (held annually in Doi Tung) to central Chiang Rai. The festival area will be decorated with trees and flowers on the top of Doi Tung Mountain, creating a vibrant atmosphere to welcome the winter in Thailand. 

The main highlight is the first and only Christmas tree in Thailand designed and created by Doi Tung, which showcases the local identity and community contribution, and reflects the values ​​and beliefs of Central Batana with the community at the core.

“The Mokpanwa Christmas tree is named after a 1,000-degree Fahrenheit (2,000-meter) long fabric. Villagers and aborigines in the Doi Tung Mountains gave up their free time to weave this fabric together. The word “Mok” (fog) comes from Chiang Rai The beautiful foggy phenomenon that occurs in the province from November to January of the following year each winter. Therefore, we chose a name that reflects the origin of this specially designed Christmas tree, and uses materials that are easily found in the local area to convey information about simple lifestyles and Information about contact with nature."

"The materials used in the Christmas tree include bamboo, pine, weaving butterflies, dyed silk, cotton, mulberry paper, and vetiver. The bright colors reflect the ethnic costume culture of Chiang Rai, such as the Akha, Lahu, Taiya, and Tailo The traditional costumes of ethnic, Lua and Yunnan Chinese. These are presented and coordinated in each layer to represent the diversity of harmonious coexistence."

From now on, tourists are welcome to visit the first and only "Mo Panwa Christmas Tree" in Thailand. The upcoming 2021 Chiang Rai Flower Dance Festival will be held at Casaron Plaza in central Chiang Rai from December 25, 2021 to January 2, 2022, with the concept of "Harmony and Melody: Music, Flowers and Culture" . The event is held once a year to create a vibrant atmosphere and welcomes visitors who come to experience the cool northern breeze during the New Year. 

The event will help raise awareness of northern plant species, and various techniques will be used to make the event noticeable. This year, the event will showcase Lanna legends, patterns and installations reflecting the identity of Chiang Rai.
